Where To Stay on the Isle of Mull
Since the focus here is on food, it’s only fitting that I suggest a bed and breakfast like Fairways Lodge B&B. Scotland has a lot to choose from, granted, but this one has the additional benefit of simple, unobtrusive decor that’s a pleasant blend of modern minimalism and traditional appeal.
It’s high up on a hill, which makes for great views, but can be difficult to get to if you don’t have a rental car.

We’re starting fancy schmancy with the Ninth Wave Restaurant. This is a majorly classy joint with some fantastic seafood. But while the prices are up there, it doesn’t have a snobby or hoity-toity atmosphere at all. It has smart decor without being pretentious, giving a relaxed and comfortable vibe.
The only thing is that a lot of reviewers talked about lunch, but the restaurant must have changed its opening times. As of the time of this writing, it’s only open for dinner, and a pretty late one at that. It’s also closed for part of the week – quite a few restaurants on this list are like that. Maybe they’ll crack open the doors a little wider once the post-pandemic travelers start flowing in more regularly.

Local Food for Local Folk at Am Birlinn
This place is a bit out of the way, up a long, winding road from Tobermory, catering more to locals than tourists. But as far as I’m concerned, that’s the best kind of restaurant. No gimmicks, just good food! Like the Ninth Wave, Am Birlinn mainly serves locally sourced seafood.
It offers them at a decent price, too – not cheap, but nothing that’ll break the bank.

Luckily, the Galleon Bistro is a steakhouse so you don’t have to try your luck with anything that looks fishy. (Too much pun?) It also sources its beef locally, so you know it’s fresh. And if you’re not in the mood for steak, no worries – they also have chicken, fish, and other dishes on the menu.
You’ll also get a chance to finally know what those long-haired highland cows taste like! (Not that I was ever curious about that. Well, okay. Maybe a tiny bit.)

The Coffee Pot: for All Your Sweet Tooth and Afternoon Tea Needs
If you’re looking for a bit of lighter fare, the Coffee Pot is a charming café in Salen known for its inviting ambiance and baked goods. I swear, looking at their website makes me wanna eat cake so bad. The scones come highly recommended, and they’ve got an afternoon tea option that looks amazing.
It’s not just sweets (although, like I said, those are bomb), but also freshly assembled sandwiches for those hankering for lunch.

Cafe Fish’s Got Seafood Variety Up the Wazoo
As the name implies, Cafe Fish is another seafood joint – one set right on Tobermory’s harbor. It has some nice outdoor seating so you can enjoy the ocean breeze, and mussels, prawns, and lobsters aplenty. And fish, too, of course.
Cafe Fish’s high point is probably the sheer variety they offer – from smoked salmon platters to shellfish bisque, the menu is keyed to what’s available from local fisheries.
Note: it has limited seating, so if you can, book in advance.

Beautiful Lunch Three Times a Week at the Hebridean Lodge
The Hebridean Lodge is a culinary haven, and one of the best in Tobermory, offering a blend of traditional Scottish flavors and contemporary twists. They go the extra mile in plating the food to make it as mouthwatering as possible.
It’s just a shame that they’re only open for lunch three days a week. They are the busiest days for travel, so hopefully, you’ll have a chance to check them out.

The Creel Seafood Bar for Budget-Friendly Isle of Mull Restaurants
For those who want some good seafood but don’t want to break the budget, the Creel Seafood Bar is the perfect compromise of taste and affordability.
It’s a no sit-down restaurant (literally no indoor seating and only three benches outside), so I wouldn’t recommend it in stormy weather. But on a nice day, grabbing take away boxes loaded with lobster and french fries has a pretty nice feel to it. Like sampling street foods between destinations.
