You’re probably thinking, “Seriously, another ‘best hotels’ article for France? How original.” Sorry to disappoint, but this isn’t your typical top-ten list. This list of the best hotels in Avignon is for all of my travelers, from the budget-conscious to the big spenders. Avignon is the perfect place to stay for lovers of history, architecture, and wine, of course!
Bet you didn’t know: the historic center of Avignon was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995, and the city served as the European cultural capital for 2000. This little French commune is understated with a huge personality, and the hotels definitely have the character to match. Keep these hotels in mind for your trip to Avignon, whether you’re looking to splurge or save.

Best Hotels in Avignon for Balling on a Budget
This one’s for all my ballers on a budget. These are some of the best hotels in Avignon for those of you who’d rather spend on experiences rather than the actual accommodations. Nothing wrong with that!
Hostelling International Avignon
Address:ย 17 Rue de la Rรฉpublique, Avignon, Vaucluse, 84000
I know what you’re thinking: aren’t “youth hostels”… for youths? And the answer might surprise you: No, actually; they’re for travelers of all ages, including families and school groups. And it’s not at all uncommon to find families with young children staying at “youth hostels” in Europe.
Still not sold? Hear me out: Beds in shared male/female-only rooms run as little as $30 per night. Or, book a private twin or double room for as little as $73 a night. You can even get an entire bunk room for your family for ~$110 per night.
What’s more ridiculous is Auberge de jeunesse HI Avignon (as it is listed on maps and booking sites) is literally in the heart of old town Avignon. You cannot get closer for cheaper with better value than this. Plus, common areas and a full kitchen at your disposal.
PRO TIP: Get a 10% off discount at HI hostels around the world when you get an annual HI membership for only $20.

The hotelโs warm ambiance is complemented by attentive service, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a comfortable yet intimate experience while visiting this picturesque Provenรงal city.
If I had any criticism, it’d be that the dining room is a little cramped. As many are in Europe. But you’ll forget all about that as soon as you take a bite of a warm, flaky croissant.

Best Avignon Hotels for Luxe Without the Cost
If you’re not exactly budget-conscious and quite bougie but somewhere in the middle ($100โ200 a night range), these hotels are a great choice for your trip to Avignon. They’re affordable but still super elegant, giving you the feeling of luxury without the price tag.
Hotel De Cambis
Address: 89 Rue Joseph Vernet, 84000 Avignon, France
With great reviews and reasonable costs, Hotel de Cambis in Avignon is actually a Best Western Premier Collection property. The pet-friendly hotel is a fantastic choice for those traveling with their furry friends, as it offers a welcoming atmosphere for both pets and their owners.
The rooms are elegantly designed with modern touches, offering comfort and convenience after a day of exploring the city’s rich history. The hotelโs prime location, just a short walk from the Palais des Papes and other key attractions, makes it an ideal base for sightseeing.

Mercure Pont d’Avignon Centre
Address: 3 Rue Puits de la Reille, Avignon, Vaucluse, France 84000
Parking: Parking Palais des Papes, Rue Ferruce, 84000 Avignon, France
Hรดtel Mercure Pont d’Avignon Centre is a modern, well-located hotel offering a comfortable stay near some of Avignonโs most famous landmarks. Situated just steps from the iconic Pont Saint-Bรฉnรฉzet, the hotel enjoys an ideal location for exploring the city.
That said, I should mention the hotelโs address (which takes you to their parking behind the hotel) can be a bit confusing. For convenience, I’ve also given the actual address you can find the front entrance at, if walking from, say, the train station (like we were).
Once you find it, though, the hotel impresses with its amenities, including an inviting outdoor deck that offers beautiful views, perfect for relaxing in the warmer months.
The hotel is part of the Mercure chain, ensuring a reliable and high-quality stay, with modern rooms and a contemporary design. Its proximity to the bridge and the city center makes it a convenient choice for sightseeing, with attractions like the Palais des Papes just a short walk away. I appreciated the hotel’s service, comfort, and peaceful yet central location.

Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis
Address: 20 Rue Du Portail Boquier, Avignon, Vaucluse, France 84000
Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis is set around a peaceful cloistered courtyard, with arched walkways and stone columns that hint at its 16th-century convent past, while the contemporary wing adds sleek, modern rooms with minimalist decor.
In warmer months, guests can enjoy a seasonal outdoor pool and rooftop terrace, a rare perk for a city-center property in Provence. There is also an on-site restaurant that often serves Provenรงal-inspired cuisine, so you can end your day with a glass of local wine in the courtyard.
If you’re looking for affordable indulgence, this Avignon hotel is the best choice. Its location near Avignon Centre train station and within walking distance of the Palais des Papes makes it especially convenient for sightseeing without sacrificing atmosphere.

Superior Luxury Hotels in Avignon
Looking for luxury? I’ve got you covered with the best hotels in Avignon for ultimate opulence. From modern to French classic, any of these hotels is a great choice if you’re looking for a magnificently relaxing stay.
Hotel La Mirande
Address: 4 Place de l’Amirande, Avignon, Vaucluse, France 84000
Do you want luxury? A stay at Hotel La Mirande will make you feel like genuine royalty. This hotel is pretty much the tip of the top in Avignon’s 5-star accommodations, and you can feel it the moment you step onto the property.
And when I say you feel like royalty in these rooms, I mean that genuinely. No modern minimalism or chic efficiency here. They’re like picture-perfect replicas of queens’ and kings’ bedrooms with elaborate gold moldings, elegant embroidery, and luscious bedspreads and armchairs.
It’s no surprise it used to be a 17th-century chateau with how gorgeous the architecture is – but no worries, all the important stuff (like bathrooms, etc.) is modern and up-to-date.
The location isn’t bad, either – to walk to Rue de la Rรฉpublique and Avignon Central Station would both take less than fifteen minutes.

Hotel d’Europe
Address: 12 Place Crillon, Avignon, Vaucluse, France 84000
Not only do you get to rest in the lap of luxury, Hotel d’Europe comes with some breathtaking views and a bomb-ass breakfast that comes included with your room.
Like La Mirande, it’s got great access to local attractions and transportation, but at a slightly more affordable rate. The staff is also ready and willing to help guests with whatever they need to have a comfortable stay.
One thing to note: a few of the more recent reviews are pretty critical of this place, mostly due to it being outdated. And honestly, fair enough – staying in an old building comes with certain inconveniences. However, on the bright side, the hotel has undergone some recent renovations, so I have high hopes that it’s more up-to-date now.
And if not, well, enjoying the old-world vibe is part of the charm, right?

La Maison de l’Olivier
Address: 34 Rue Louis Pasteur, Avignon, Vaucluse, France 84000
This hotel takes pleasing its patrons seriously. Every aspect of your stay at La Maison de l’Olivier, from the pristine outdoor pool to the intricate, modern designs, makes you feel like you’re a celebrity. The staff is both accommodating and knowledgeable, happy to give advice on the best sightseeing and places to eat in the neighborhood.
It doesn’t hurt that it’s right in Avignon’s hotspot, roughly a ten to fifteen-minute walk away from pretty much all the best attractions including Place de l’Horloge, Avignon Cathedral, Palais des Papes, and more.
Considering the quality you get, this place is a serious bargain. And trust me, every single penny goes toward making your stay absolutely perfect.
