Best Beaches in Genoa to Catch Some Rays

The beaches along Genoa’s coastline offer a unique blend of city life and seaside relaxation. While some beaches feature pebbles and rocky shores, others captivate visitors with their charming coves and picturesque settings along the Ligurian Sea.

Spiaggia di Boccadasse

If you want the stereotypical Italian beach – the kind you always see on laptop screensavers – then Spiaggia di Boccadasse is the ultimate destination. This is one of the few beaches in Genoa located within the city limits. It’s ideal if you want to experience an amazing beach with little time to spare.

The beach here is more pebbly than sandy, and the backdrop is Piazza Nettuno, a cobbled square home to trattoria restaurants and various gelato shops. I’d give this beach a 10/10 just for the convenience and everything you can experience in one location.

Baia del Silenzio

Baia del Silenzio (AKA Bay of Silence) is frequently voted as one of Italy’s most beautiful beaches. That should be enough to make you want to check it out. It’s a perfectly formed small beach with soft sand and crystal blue waters. It’s also backed by the pastel-colored buildings typical of the region.

If you’re looking for adventure and water sports, this probably isn’t the place for you. It’s more for those who want to relax and unwind in a zone of tranquility. It’s like a little cove of comfort that you’ll definitely want to visit at least once in your life.

Spiaggia Pubblica Capolungo is a picturesque coastal gem nestled along the Ligurian coast. This beach has soft, golden sand and inviting blue waters, ideal for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. In addition, the gentle waves provide a soothing background if you want a little extra tranquility.

Did you know that listening to waves and flowing water actually helps calm an anxious mind? Spiaggia Sotto La Chiesa

This delightful coastal haven literally lures you like a siren with its eye-popping setting. Located beneath a charming church, this beach has soft, sandy shores that create a perfect space for sunbathing and relaxing.

The crystal waters of the Mediterranean are the main draw of this beach (as with the others) and provide a refreshing escape if you love to swim or just admire the fairytale-like landscape. The proximity of the church adds something special.

Spiaggia Libera Sotto La Chiesa is a particularly enticing destination if you really want to experience the coastal beauty and cultural richness of Italy in one breathtaking location.

Spiaggia di San Michele di Pagana

The name of this beach might be long, but it’s just a short distance from the center of Genoa. This is actually a former fishing hamlet with buildings in the typical colors seen on the coast and three beaches along the same bay.

There’s one beach to the south called Travello and one to the north called Pomaro. The main beach sits between those two and has super fine sand, some excellent dining options, and a jetty where you can dive into the clear, blue waters.

There isn’t much in the way of facilities, but the experience of just being there is all you really need.

Vibrantly colored buildings line the shore, their reflections shimmering on the calm water, while small boats float peacefully in the foreground. The backdrop features lush greenery and historic architecture, including a castle-like structure atop a hill.

Spiaggia San Fruttuoso

This beach is off-the-beaten-path, tucked away in a wooded region on the way to Portofino. It’s unique because it’s literally two worlds: a sandy beach that’s surrounded by forests.

If you love history, this beach has a 10th-century monastery featuring ancient Roman cloisters and a history museum. It’s in a pretty remote location but still has a couple of restaurants and even scuba diving. If you choose to scuba, you can visit Christ of the Abyss, a bronze statue of Jesus on the ocean floor.

Surrounded by lush green hills, the abbey's stone architecture overlooks a small, pebbly beach filled with colorful umbrellas and sunbathers, while turquoise waters lap the shore.
