Lesser-Traveled Caribbean Beach Vacations To Add To Your List

December 29, 2020 No Comments
Colorful buildings on a Havana street

Well, I dunno about you, but when it comes to the Caribbean, I’m a sucker for the lesser-known islands. The well-known ones are popular for good reason, of course, but in true Global Debauchery fashion, I like exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations. I feel like it gives a more authentic experience. So, while I shared the best […]

Good night, good night, El Paso! 👋 Parting is s Good night, good night, El Paso! 👋 Parting is such sweet sorrow. You were absolutely incredible, friend. ❤️ But I’ve gotta get this travel show on the road. Meep, meep! 🚗

Up next ➡️ New Mexico!!! Stay tuned, y’all! P.S. That “❌” in the distance on the third photo is the “X” from “M-E-X-I-C-O” that’s spelled across the border. Cute, right? 😉

What’s today’s amazing offering, you ask? 💎 How about FREE tickets to next week’s @sheswanderful women’s virtual travel conference?!? 🤗

There’s a FREE beginner blogging bootcamp 👩🏻‍💻 AND a ton of FREE keynotes 🗣—launching a business during a pandemic, influencing & travel agents, ethics of travel during Covid, and engaging with politics on social platforms. It’s gonna be awesome!!!

👉 Get your FREE tix in my bio link!!! (...Did I mention they’re FREE?) 💸
📣 It's official: I'm declaring ALL Tuesdays Glo 📣 It's official: I'm declaring ALL Tuesdays Global Debauchery TRAVEL TIP TUESDAYS. 📣 That means, in addition to the already awesome, jam-packed info I provide every other day of the week, you can ALWAYS count on me to give the best of the best travel tips... on Tuesdays. ❤️ So, what's in store for today?

Well, I touched on this a bit in yesterday's post, but I'm gonna go all in on it today. Want to REALLY get to know City XYZ? Head for their arts district. 🎨 Mural hunting is the new, trendy travel thing to do, of course, but you can discover SO much more than those lone angel wings on the side of Cafe Yadda Yadda for The Gram. Do better. And dive in. 🤸‍♂️

✴️ You can find entire art walks outlined on a lot of city visitor's bureaus sites. 💻 Not only will they lead you past the more obscure artworks a city offers, they offer you a tour of downtown overall. It's free entertainment and a great educational opportunity.

✴️ Google travel blogs. 🌎 Lots of bloggers specialize in specific cities, know ALL the mural locations, and—as a new friend pointed out yesterday—they'll also tell you all the little details you wish you'd known beforehand.

✴️ Grab ahold of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. 🤗 There's an entire Picasso exhibit happening in Nashville right now, an immersive Van Gogh exhibit in Cleveland, and a new Yayoi Kusama in New York. These exhibits usually only stay in one place for a few months, and they may or may not make their way to your neck of the woods otherwise.

👉 Do you have any artsy tips to add? What's happening in the art world in your city right now? What've been some of your favorite art cities around the world?
Happy Monday, y’all! 🤗 What kinda trouble did Happy Monday, y’all! 🤗 What kinda trouble did everyone get into this weekend?!? 😈😇 Tell me EVERYTHING!!!

For anyone visiting El Paso, might I recommend a little weekend hiking in Franklin Mountains State Park? 🥾

It’s the largest urban park in the United States, offers crazy views of the city, has some rock climbing opps 🧗🏻‍♀️, AND Aztec caves with petroglyphs. I mean... ✋🎤. The highest point of the park is over 7,000 ft, while park HQ sits at just over 5k. ...In Texas. 🤷🏻‍♀️ What more could you ask for from a state park, seriously?

What’s your all-time favorite state park?👇
I’m thinking... It feels like a Global Debaucher I’m thinking... It feels like a Global Debauchery TRAVEL TIPS kinda day!!! 🤗 One of my fav days.

I LOVE digging deep and seeking authenticity in any given place I travel, going beyond your standard tourist stops. ❤️ And people ALWAYS ask me how I find the places I find. So here are a few of my TOP TIPS on tracking down some TRUE travel experiences:🔎

🔸 One of my favorite NEW tips? Dig into local coffee shops. I fell in love with @elpasocoffeebox,☕️ a renovated train car with an outdoor deck and mural on one side. And they had some super different craft coffee drinks, too—like horchata lattes and charcoal frappes!
🔸 Track down arts districts. 🎨 They're almost always in some sort of "up-and-coming" neighborhood, covered in murals, and there's a TON of small business shopping to be done here.
🔸 Discover the weird and the wonderful. 👽 One of my favorite sites to peruse is @atlasobscura. THIS is where you'll find some REAL off-the-beaten-path things to do! And create some whacky memories.
🔸 Visit the local food market. 🍎 Better yet (and assuming you aren't vegetarian), visit the local meat market. 🥩 Try all the samples and chat up the vendors.
🔸 Do ONE thing that SCARES you. Figure out what the big local adventure activity is and DO IT. 😱 Shark cage diving on the North Shore? Okay. Tour the DMZ from Seoul? Sure. That abandoned railway tunnel in Paris? Absolutely.

What are some of your tips for traveling DEEPER? Tell me everything!👇
El Paso’s @hotelpdn 🏨 has SO much extraordina El Paso’s @hotelpdn 🏨 has SO much extraordinary history, it almost leaves me speechless.🤐 Almost. And, as you know, I’m rarely at a loss for words.😆

It’s a 108-year-old hotel. ...Do you even know what that means in this part of the United States?😮 It literally means that the site of this very hotel shifted ownership back and forth between Mexico and the United States for a period time.🇲🇽🔁🇺🇸 And it literally means that Pancho Villa sat and had drinks on the rooftop while watching the Mexican revolution play out.🍹Not even kidding.
•
One of the most notable hotel features is a 25-foot Tiffany-style glass dome over its central bar— @thedomebar.pdn.🍷 And, of course, Pancho Villa’s favorite drink spot is now @elmirador.pdn, a swanky rooftop bar on the 10th floor overlooking the border.🍸 Both spots are currently open with music and events. And DO NOT forget a meal at @sabor.pdn! 🍽
•
Don’t even get me started on the rooms—gorgeous decor, great views, super spacious, murder docs on Netflix, and the BEST night of sleep I’ve had in a long time! 😴🤗 (Seriously.)

Would Global Debauchery even BE globally debaucher Would Global Debauchery even BE globally debaucherous if it didn’t mention that today is National Beer Day? (I think not.)🍻
•
So, it was particularly interesting to me to note in El Paso that, not only does @ljcafe sell its famous green chili chicken enchiladas,🌯 its famous salsa,🌶 and to-go margaritas🍹 (because... Margarita Trail, hell-oooo),👋 it also sells a signature Red Beer mix.🍺
•
A what? ...A Red Beer mix. Clamato and spices that you throw into a beer of your choice (preferably a Mexican beer).🍅 Also known as a Michelada or a Red Eye. Now, it might not sound too tasty, but it’s a VERY popular alternative to the plain ol’ brunch Bloody Mary in these here parts.😋
•
Other fun facts about L&J Cafe? It’s 92 years old and a local AND tourist favorite.❤️ It’s next door to that GORGEOUS mural I posted two days ago.🎨 For some reason, there are naked, old baby dolls in the window next door.👼 It’s right across from a cemetery, one of whose “eternal residents” is Mexico’s 39th president (by coup) Victoriano Huerta.👻 And that cemetery is right next to the border with Juarez.🇲🇽 (On the other side of that bridge. Literally.)

Seriously, though—what’s not to love about @visitelpaso? 🤷🏻‍♀️
