Franklin, TN: The Next Big Hot Spot for History, Music, Food & Booze

May 4, 2021 No Comments
Franklin, TN Theatre front

It’s so funny—I’ve been struggling to start this post. And not because there’s nothing to write about Franklin, TN. But because there’s so much to write about it. I mean… where do I even begin? How do I even organize my thoughts? And then type them up in a coherent fashion? Ultimately, I decided an […]

DC's CHERRY BLOSSOMS HAVE REACHED FULL BLOOM! 🌸 DC's CHERRY BLOSSOMS HAVE REACHED FULL BLOOM! 🌸

Hard to believe these beautiful flowers are right in my backyard! (No not literally, but I do live close to the National Mall.) 🇺🇸

People travel from all over the world to witness these gorgeous delicate pink and white flowers in their annual bloom, but do you know the history behind them?

🤍 The cherry trees came from the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912, who gifted 3,000 cherry trees to the city of Washington, DC as a symbol of friendship between Japan and the US.

🤍 The first batch of cherry trees was sent over from Japan in 1910, but had to be destroyed due to pest infestation. The trees were later replaced in 1912.

🤍 The cherry blossoms represent the fleeting nature of life. In Japanese culture, the cherry blossoms are a symbol of the transience of life, as they only bloom for a short period of time each year.

🤍 The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a major event. Since 1935, Washington, DC has held an annual National Cherry Blossom Festival to celebrate the blooming of the trees, with people coming in from all around the globe.

🤍 The peak bloom date—the day on which 70% of the cherry blossoms are open—can vary widely depending on weather conditions, but typically occurs between March 20 and April 14.

👉️ Have you come to see these lovely cherry blossoms yet?!

🤓 If you're a history buff and would like to learn more, the National Park Service's website has an excellent article regarding the background of these beautiful delicate flowers.

📸: Do you recognize these pink and white flowers? Here are some photos I got of them back in 2020, I was actually in Belgium this past week during most of the bloom so didn't make it this year. 🥴

ARE YOU REALLLLLY A TRAVEL FOODIE??? 😝 H ARE YOU REALLLLLY A TRAVEL FOODIE??? 😝

How adventurous are you with trying new foods in other countries? 🤔

I consider myself to be "pseudo-adventurous." I'll TRY things (for shits + gigs), but I'm not over here ordering myself a whole a** guinea pig or something without knowing that I'll like it.

Also, team ~weak American stomach~ gang. Homegirl simply cannot handle some of the dishes some countries have got going on. 😂 I will say, I do genuinely enjoy escargot 🐌 and I'm not opposed to trying fried bugs, BUT my sensitive stomach keeps me a weeeee bit guarded.

My stepmom—on the other hand—is VERY adventurous. This woman has tried cobra heart, cuy, bugs galore... couldn't be me, thanks but no thanks. 🙅🏻‍♀️

Shoutout to Cipro for always being there to save the day. 😎🦸🏻

👉️ What's the most exotic food you've tried whilst traveling? Would you recommend it? Share with me in the comments below! ✍️

📸: Y'all we've got some crazy foods from all over the globe, including some interesting-looking proteins. Spare me the pig's head, but gimme all the Southeast Asia fruits! 🥭

WHAT YOU WON’T FIND ME WEARING THIS SPRING (or e WHAT YOU WON’T FIND ME WEARING THIS SPRING (or ever...) 👗🙅🏻‍♀️

Not gonna happen. It’s just not me. Doesn’t make it wrong and not at all something to shame, but you will never find me wardrobe-changing mid-exploring to take a one-hour photo shoot here, there, or anywhere.

But you know what IS ME?!

👚 Dressing casually, comfy, and practically because most of the time, it’s just me and my carry-on. ❌ No room for flying dresses.
🥴 Probably most likely me BEHIND the camera... not in front of it. Although I’m forcing myself to show my face a bit more LOL.
🥂 Yeah there’s a 97% chance I’m people-watching the whole shoot from across the way while sipping on some tasty libation in a hidden gem of a bar.

Just thought I’d set your expectations as it was Spring Equinox just yesterday meaning warmer weather is quickly approaching... and the long flying dresses will NOT be coming out of my closet.

👉️ Would you partake in a flying dress photo shoot, yay or nay?

📸: Because I finally learned how to use a green screen... so naturally I had to do one with some flying dresses to remind you all how off-brand that would be for me. 🤣

THAT AWKWARD MOMENT WHEN YOU’RE PACKED UP AND RE THAT AWKWARD MOMENT WHEN YOU’RE PACKED UP AND READY TO GO... ONLY TO FIND OUT YOUR FLIGHT HAS BEEN CANCELLED?! 🥴

In light of it being Awkward Moments Day, (who even came up with such a thing LOL), I thought I’d share something that happened to me recently.

I was supposed to be in Key West earlier this month when... you guessed it! That exact thing happened to Jeff and I. Sigh. Packed up at the airport, ready to board... then the announcement goes off. Flights are canceled.

Damnit. 🤬

FOLLOW THIS 5-STEP GUIDE FOR WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR FLIGHT PLANS GO AWRY: 🛩️

STEP 1️⃣: Calm down and check for updates. Shit happens. Check the airline’s website, visit the app, and listen for announcements. Be sure to check if you’ve received any text messages or email alerts from the airline.

STEP 2️⃣: Explore your options. When a flight is canceled, airlines typically offer their passengers a few options. These can include rebooking on the next available flight, transferring to another airline, or receiving a refund.

STEP 3️⃣: Rebook or transfer to another flight if possible. Look into rebooking on another flight, transferring airlines, or even flying out of a different airport. Speak to a representative if you need assistance.

STEP 4️⃣: Decide on a plan. Sometimes the unpredictability of travel means a spontaneous change in plans, can you reroute your adventure? How can you make the most of this little travel hiccup? Perhaps decide on some new travel arrangements while sipping on a cocktail at the airport bar.

STEP 5️⃣: Execute said plan. Be sure to follow up with the airline to ensure whether you’re eligible for credit or compensation!

👉️ When was the last time your flight got canceled?! What’d you do about it?

Jeff and I actually ended up having ourselves a little “staycation.” My cats were ecstatic... me, not so much.

📸: Me... NOT in Key West 😩 Though I did learn how to use a green screen!!

THRIFTY TRAVEL DESTINATIONS THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOI THRIFTY TRAVEL DESTINATIONS THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT💰️

I've been to over 60 countries, and here are my top 5 most affordable countries I'd recommend:

🇷🇴 Romania (Photos 1 +2)
🇲🇦 Morocco (Photos 3 + 4)
🇲🇳 Mongolia (Photos 5+6)
🇧🇦 Bosnia (Photos 6 + 7)
🇲🇽 Mexico (Photo 8)

Each of these countries (from multiple continents may I add) has a whole lot to offer in terms of culture, scenery, site seeing, etc. The best part? They're CHEAP to travel around. Getting there is one thing but ONCE YOU'RE THERE... you can do a whole lot while balling on a budget.

How can you find affordable travel destinations?! Research and planning! What to look for:

🏠️ Consider countries with low costs of living: they're typically reasonable to travel with more affordable accommodations, food, and activities.
🕳️ Explore lesser-known destinations: Don't be afraid to go off the beaten path!
🗓️ Search for flexible travel dates and accommodations: Some dates are more affordable than others, and planning a trip during the shoulder season in a country makes a TREMENDOUS difference.

👉️ What countries have you been to that you'd recommend to someone traveling on a budget?

STATE PARK APPRECIATION POST! 👏 I feel l STATE PARK APPRECIATION POST! 👏

I feel like state parks oftentimes get overlooked despite the immense beauty they have to offer.

Here are some of the reasons you should venture a bit off-the-beaten-path and find yourself an outdoor adventure at a STATE PARK:

✌🏼 State Parks are often less crowded than National Parks, which can make for a more peaceful and less stressful experience.
🗺️ State Parks are generally closer to urban areas and easier to access than National Parks, which are often located in more remote areas.
💲State Parks tend to have lower admission and camping fees than National Parks.
🎣 State Parks can offer a wider variety of recreational activities than National Parks.
🚘️ State Parks can be a better option for those who are interested in day trips or weekend getaways.
🤩 State Parks can offer a more intimate and personalized experience than National Parks, as they are often smaller and more accessible, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

👉️ What's your favorite State Park? I wonder if I've been! 🤔
