An Overindulgence of Wanderlust

What better way to describe something than by quoting someone who’s already expressed it best? Leo Tolstoy.

“I wanted movement & not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement & danger & the chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance of energy which found no outlet in our quiet life.”

This is what drives my wanderlust. You could say I was born with the travel bug. I moved from England two months after being brought into the world. A military brat, I spent my childhood traveling and, as an adult, the habit just stuck. Sitting in one place for too long amplifies a restlessness in me. It seems the feeling of unfamiliarity is actually the most familiar of all.

I spend a great majority of my waking minutes daydreaming about travel, planning travel, trolling travel sites… I’m usually devising my next big trip before I’ve even gone on the one that’s already booked. Yes, I pretty much obsessively think about where in the world I’m going next.

Welcome to Global Debauchery

What does all of this even mean? It means that, in any given day, I come across a lot of valuable travel information worth sharing. And on any given trip, I hear a lot of interesting stories from some very interesting people. So why not hush my nagging travel bug by further indulging it with a travel blog? Of course.

These days, Global Debauchery focuses primarily on flashpacking. But you’ll also find a lot of budget and backpacking intel from my younger travel days. What hasn’t changed over the years are the traditional pre-flight libations and my penchant for off-the-beaten-path sights.

So, there you have it. Welcome to Jordan’s world of Global Debauchery. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about it as much as I enjoy writing about it.

  1. Love reading your blog and following you and Jeff on your travels. Some times literally. Then again sometimes I’m a step ahead. I have next four trips planned through 2019. Right now I’m on a stacation in Nola for Restaurant week. 4 days of eating.

    1. I know, I love it! Can’t wait to see your trips on Facebook for this year. I have a BUNCH coming up this fall; I’m going to be tired. Lol. Who doesn’t love NOLA and food?!?
